Having shared taster tracks Beautiful Lonely & Better Love in recent months, Mancunian indie rock outfit Rosellas release their first of two EPs in 2026: Shadow Dancing – a collection of songs that highlight the band’s talent for writing bright & uplifting melodies along with emotionally aware lyrics, all brought to life with a production heavily influenced by the analogue warmth of vinyl.

Inspired by a mix of artists like Sam Fender, The War On Drugs, The Verve & the reverb-soaked guitars of David Gilmour, Rosellas continue to develop their unique sound utilising cutting-edge production techniques, subtle layering of guitars & whispery vocal harmonies.

With individual track descriptions from the band below, the EP’s been designed to be listened to from start to finish as a single body of work. Who Do You Shine For, a song about infatuation & meeting a person who ‘shines’ & how special that can be, kicks things off, before Beautiful Lonely, which has already enjoyed BBC Radio 2 support, X-Posure playlisting on Radio X & an insightful review in Louder Than War follows on.

Then Before I Forget You drops the tempo down & lyrically explores the fear of losing those close to you, while title track Shadow Dancing lifts the mood once again using the metaphor of ‘shadow dancing’ to visualise the relationships between people & their interactions. Closing the EP is the nostalgic Better Love – a soft rolling track about looking back on life & wondering where the time has gone.

Rosellas are looking to build on what was a highly successful year in 2025 with high points being an interview & acoustic performance on Talk Sport radio, playlisting on Radio X’s X-posure show with John Kennedy & slots on Spotify playlists The Ocial Formula 1, Betfred Super League, Wimbledon’s Official Playlist & more.

Growing up individually in Manchester, Rosellas are Drew Selby (vocals / guitar), Euan Mail (guitar), Ollie Appleby (bass) & Mark Zanker (drums). A chance meeting between Drew & Euan on the train back from a Blossoms gig was the catalyst that kick-started the band. Inspired musically by The War On Drugs, Sam Fender & The La’s, lyrically by Ian Brown, Morrissey & Noel Gallager, Rosellas have gone on to headline This Feeling’s Isle of Wight & Truck Fest stages, play sold out shows at Manchester’s Academy 2, & enjoy radio support from BBC Introducing, BBC 6Music’s Chris Hawkins, Radio X’s John Kennedy to name a few.

With ongoing UK tour dates (see below) to promote the EP, Rosellas continue to win over new fans to their melodic alt rock sound. Be sure to follow on your preferred socials for updates & announcements.

Track descriptions from the band:

  1. Who Do You Shine For – With a similar lyrical theme to the track Surrounded by the Light from our previous EP, this song explores the idea of certain people seeming to ‘shine’ & how special that can be for those who are around them. It’s a song about infatuation really, where you’re getting lost in the everyday & then this person turns up & brightens the day for all around. Atmospheric guitars drive the track forward with a repeating motif throughout & in the chorus we added slide guitar & synths to give it lift & that Rosellas atmosphere that our listeners have become accustomed to.
  1. Beautiful Lonely – A song about looking for answers, both in other people & within yourself. We thought the mirror imagery was a nice way to show how people present different versions of themselves & how there can be a difference between the version we present to the world, & that one of ourselves when we’re alone (i.e. when we look in the mirror). It has that fairytale feeling of “mirror, mirror on the wall…” which we really like & relate to. We’ve played the song live a fair few times over the years & it’s gone through a lot of changes (see YouTube for earlier live versions). We wanted it to start with power but have quieter more reflective moments in there too, which I feel we’ve accomplished on this definitive version.
  1. Before I Forget You – A love song in its simplest form but not necessarily a romantic love, which we liked the ambiguity of, since it could relate to a family member or even a close friend. Written in just one afternoon, the melody is fairly simple and reminds us of a Richard Hawley type ballad. Acoustic guitars drive the song along with Mick McCabe (from The Verve) & David Gilmour inspired lead phrases providing a call & response with the vocal, especially on the outro section where vocalist Blue Jean & Drew are drenched in a long echo – a sideline nod to influences Pink Floyd, The War On Drugs & The Verve.
  1. Shadow Dancing – This upbeat song explores the relationship between two people when one of them seems to ‘shine’. We love the phrase ‘Shadow Dancing’ which fit perfectly with what we wanted to say – but again, like we do in most of our writing, we’ve left this one open to interpretation. The middle 8 section is the most synth-heavy part of the EP with layers of saturated synth pads processed through a tremolo to give it that helicopter-like sound. The War On Drugs are exceptional in their use of synth in this way to create scene changes – listen to their live album Live Drugs & you’ll see where we were influenced here.
  1. Better Love – Sung in third person as if it’s a promise to yourself that things will get better, there’s a real nostalgic feel to the lyrics in this one, as if you’re looking back on your life & wondering where the time has gone – like saying we might not be where had wanted to be in life at this point but that’s OK! With ‘Nashville strung’ acoustics driving the song forward in a gentle & mellow manner, the EP version of this track goes fully instrumental towards the end, capturing everything we love about our sound and closing the EP beautifully when listened to from top to tail as a complete body of work.
