Orla Gartland – Now What?
Dublin’s Orla Gartland has shared the surprise new track Now What? which will feature on the forthcoming extended edition of Gartland’s second album Everybody Needs A Hero. Gartland stated: “I started this year with a strong feeling that I had more to say. Last year I experienced some big life changes; I felt more unravelled & pensive than any other time in my adult life. Now What? explores the vast unknown we face after a breakup and how our feelings morph and change over time.” Gartland’s no-holds-barred lyricism is the star of the track as she poses the question many of us have asked before: “I am completely f*cking free, now what?”

Le Charme – Garden (I Know You Want Me,You Want More)
Le Charme have shared their new track Garden and the duo state: “The idea for the track came from Lexie meeting a chic mother in an Italian garden five years ago. She was drinking red wine and chain smoking cigarettes as her children ran around. Chords were written in November 2023 and the imaginative lyrics came quickly after, exploring the ideas of yearning, idealism, and wanting something that you can’t quite have .. The dream-like quality of the lyrics and vocal melody are elements that were always top of mind in production. We’ve tinkered with this song more than anything else we’ve made thus far… It sort of feels like the first song we’ve ever made, as it is so truly us.”

Billy Nomates – Plans
Last month, Billy Nomates (aka Tor Maries) announced her new album Metalhorse and shared the lead single The Test. Now she’s back with the exuberant new single Plans. Maries, who recently received a multiple sclerosis diagnosis, describes the upbeat track as being like “getting on the Waltzers at the end of the world,” adding: “As I get older, and I’ve just had this diagnosis, and the world’s a fucking mess, the idea of being able to have fun or fall in love with someone is the ultimate rebellion, isn’t it? It just feels totally radical these days. And it seems to happen less as life gets more complicated. Things are only going to get worse, there’s no point being blue sky about it, but there’s also fun to be found in this two minute whizz around that we all have.”

Black Honey – Dead
Black Honey have shared their new single Dead, taken from upcoming album Soak. The four-piece from Brighton really strip things back on this track creating a more intimate feel and devastating tone. The combination of heavy guitars and drums behind frontwoman Izzy B. Phillips’ soft vocals give the track an angelic sound whilst also radiating passion. It invites you to feel as a listener rather than excite, as it favours a more melancholic ballad style. Presented by a stillness to the instrumental, it allows for the emotion in the lyrics to carry the weight of the listening experience. Mainly characterised by the pain in Izzy’s voice, you can feel the betrayal and disassociation. The central message of the song describes the numbness and detachment a person can go through due to betrayal – the damage has already reached a point of no return.

Fontaines D.C. – Before You I Just Forget
Irish five-piece Fontaines D.C. have released their gentle, yet industrial new single Before You I Just Forget, part of the deluxe edition of their 2024 album Romance. The band’s Conor Curley states: “Before You I Just Forget is a song that started with a vision of this really blown out sound, something that heaved and shifted with new details, becoming apparent every time you would listen. Like never being able to step in the same river twice, the song morphs and changes, finishing with an incredible string part by Grian [Chatten].” This summer the band will play their biggest headline to date at Finsbury Park in London. The 45,000 capacity sold out show will be supported by special guests including the likes of Amyl and the Sniffers, Kneecap and Blondshell.

Tapeworms – Safe And Sound
Tapeworms explore the ups and downs of following your dreams on atmospheric new single Safe And Sound. The track begins with a synth shimmering brightly in its 8-bit sound, a gentle introduction that feels like awakening from a long dream, imbuing an instant allure. The synth is joined by contrastingly heavy pulses of electronica and Margot Magnière’s compressed vocals. Singing of feeling her dreams fading, the vast synths fuse together to form dense, lush chords. Building slowly, they eventually swallow Magnière whole, encapsulating her in a haze of drum ‘n’ bass and ringing synth-pop. The band states: “Switching between pessimism and optimism, the song is structured as a dialogue between two inner voices. While the first one tells its struggle to hold on everyday, fusing its discourse with motivational words, the second one keeps pushing them to keep going.”

BC Camplight – Two Legged Dog (ft. Abigail Morris)
Manchester singer-songwriter BC Camplight shares prowling single Two Legged Dog ft. The Last Dinner Party’s Abigail Morris and announces new album A Sober Conversation. Morris stated: “I was so thrilled when Brian reached out and asked if I would feature on this track. I will never forget the first time I heard BC Camplight – my band was driving from London to Brighton, I was astonishingly hungover and sunken eyed in the back seat when I Only Drink When I’m Drunk came on my Discover Weekly. I had it on repeat for the rest of the journey and spent the next week exclusively listening to the rest of his discography. This track was a joy to sing, and I felt so honoured to be involved in such a powerful and personal song. Thank you, Brian – you are the GOAT.”

Cosmorat – Bad Boys go to Heaven
US born, London based duo Cosmorat (aka Taylor Pollack and Olly Liu) zoom in on modern frustration on their dark new single Bad Boys go to Heaven. Laced in resentment, the alt-pop track epitomises the frustration of men who act without the worry of consequence and it comes alongside an accompanying music video directed by the band’s own Olly Liu. The track combines noise-driven elements with pop sensibilities, addressing the theme of consequences and male privilege. The accompanying visual features vocalist Taylor navigating through nighttime scenes, filmed through a lo-fi aesthetic that draws inspiration from horror cinema.

Linfa Kear – Venn Diagram
Linfa Kear frees herself from the snares of regret on the whimsical new single Venn Diagram, taken from debut EP How’s Your Mother. The track’s a reminder that we can’t have it all, but that’s not a bad thing. We can still be happy as there are things that are meant just for us. Linfa states: “I wrote this after discovering a guy I’d dated in my early 20s was happily in a relationship. He was a guy I always thought I’d be hung up about, and instead I was really happy for him and grateful for the female relationships I’d built at that time in my early 20s. The day after finishing it though I found him on Bumble and genuinely thought I had some sort of Death Note power for a second.”

Tiberius b – STAY WITH ME!
London-based artist Tiberius b (aka Frank Belcourt) has shared new single STAY WITH ME! taken from their forthcoming debut album NEVERYTHING. Belcourt states: “I often write from a place of humour and the ping pong melody that happens before every chorus moans along similarly to that descending trombone “whomp whomp” effect that people use on tv. Paired with the music video, it becomes a facetious way to process loss. The vampire concept is an allegory to depict love addiction and emotional dependency, topics I feel somewhat ashamed to have to keep returning to in my writing.” It’s a hopeful state,” notes Belcourt. “Sometimes when I’m in a really, really low place, the tiny, tiny bit of optimism that I have feels really powerful. NEVERYTHING is a window into whatever that little light can be.”
