Hull-based feisty female indie band Empty Banner share their upbeat debut single Dead To Me – a fan-favourite at their gigs about one of the band members’ ‘birth father’ & his absence from their life.
Released via Hull’s renowned record label cum youth centre Warren Records, this infectious indie-pop banger was recorded at The Warren’s recently revamped inhouse studios along with local indie producer Adam Pattrick at the helm. The song encapsulates the confusion & mixed emotions felt towards the absent figure – & in particularly the strong feelings of anger, as portrayed in the shouted lyric on the end chorus “You look just like me … You are nothing like me”.
The band explain: “for us, this song is for all the bad men in the world who shirk their responsibilities & feel they can get away with it without consequence. As for the record itself, it’s taken a while for us to get it together, having played it live at our gigs in many guises, but now it’s out there, we hope people are going to love it as much as we do”.
