Following the critical success of their debut single Over And Over, fresh new indie band Poets Corner are back with an infectious new single She’s Got You Now – a narratively indulgent track showcasing the pressures around a person who’s struggling to come to terms with a failing relationship.
Released via Hull’s renowned record label come youth centre Warren Records, the track was produced by local ‘sonic wizard’ Connor Haggarty at Scunthorpe’s fiercely independent Woodley Moss Studios. Already a firm favourite in their live set, this indie gem with its post-punk guitars tells a tale of insecurities & the claustrophobia felt when trapped in a loveless & abusive relationship.
The band explain: “A couple of us have found ourselves involved with partners who act very frugally themselves while making demands on you to spend out, knowing deep inside that there’s no commitment on their side. You end up feeling like a ‘people pleaser’, hating yourself for giving your power away. This claustrophobic feeling of having no way to escape, while not having the means to please the other party is hinted at in the line ‘all I have is broken wings’. There’s no love in this relationship – just pure stubbornness, greed & ignorance”.
