“Wonderfully warm & quaint” Mystic Sons
“Their ability to capture emotions with a striking delicacy, positions them as an emerging voice worth keeping an eye on” Oleada Indie
Following on from the success of recent double A-side single Coffee At 7? / The Piano, which received support from Radio X’s John Kennedy, Amazing Radio, Trans Radio & others, Hull based genderqueer artist Trouser Dress is back with the poignant & lyrically literal new single Old Soul – a track that sees them quoting directly from people around the artist & their comments.
Released on Warren Records & recorded at their inhouse studios with indie producer Adam Pattrick, this charming & gentle lament features the artist’s treasured ukulele, now becoming synonymous with their sound after a string of releases. Lyrically, it’s centred around things that people say to, or about you, which often cause feelings, both positive & negative, that can be so overwhelming, they’re hard to understand. However, Trouser Dress has discovered over time, that the action of songwriting can often help to process them.
Breaking away from the usual way of writing songs, Trouser Dress says of the release: “This was my first time creating a track that I didn’t have a plan for, or a set sound in my head. I wrote the four lines & guitar part but then shelved the song as everything I added didn’t feel right. When I brought it to producer Adam, we decided to keep the lyrics simple & to build it up with other sounds & layers. I wanted the song to feel almost like ruminations that spiral around but start from just a few sentences. I think we created the perfect sound!”
