Cliffords – My Favourite Monster
Cork’s Cliffords have shared soaring and cinematic new single My Favourite Monster, taken from their upcoming EP Salt of the Lee. Vocalist Iona Lynch states: “My Favourite Monster is a love song to someone you don’t like but feel drawn to. I wrote it about someone in Cork I’d always stop and talk to, even though we didn’t get on. I was reading Frankenstein at the time and thought it would be fun to draw parallels between me and this guy, and Frankenstein and his monster. A lot of the things I didn’t like about him were things I saw in myself. So it became a kind of love letter to someone I’ll never get along with, but in some strange way, we understand each other.” Beautiful vocals on this rousing banger – can’t wait to check ’em out at Glasto this year.

The Silkies – IDK
The Silkies have dropped their infectious acid-rock track IDK. “[It’s a] song about existential longing, desire for connection, and finding your kindred spirit or partner,” producer Jake Merritt says. “Struggling to find a person or community, and letting them know how much they matter. [It’s] also a question of, ‘What happens if we cling so badly to our need to not be alone, that we don’t let go of relationships that we just shouldn’t have in our lives for whatever reason?’” Accentuated by playful conversation, woozy guitar effects, and passionate vocals, the song is the perfect companion for a summer day. While the topic is heavy, the psychedelic sound adds a carefree feeling to this absolute earworm – love it!

Yumi Zouma – Blister
New Zealand’s Yumi Zouma have shared their uplifting summer anthem Blister, with a self-directed video, and they state: “We found strength in simplicity, discovering that the more stripped-down we went, the more forceful the impact became. Blister surged ahead on the back of our most anthemic riffs, conjuring images in our minds of C4, Channel Z, prepaid flip-phone text plans, and the Big Day Out main stage under the punishing heat of the hole in the ozone layer.” The music video features a mix of modern cellphone technology, aughts album covers, and various other nostalgic imagery conjured by the song’s musical palette.

MORN – Modern Man
Welsh four-piece MORN have dropped their frenzied debut single Modern Man which combines fuzzy guitars and gang vocals, following their relocation to London’s DIY scene. Vocalist and guitarist Oliver Riba states: “Modern Man came from the wild urgency of our lives. Born from teenage riffs, shaped by laughter, anger, and fear. It’s a desperate sprint through the loneliness and madness of routine, a strange reflection on the dream of escape. It felt right that it was all captured live, and Dan Carey really brought it to life with a touch of his magic. Welcome to the world of MORN.” Self-described as “doom over beautiful chords”, MORN manage to craft a sound that is jagged yet melodic, with memorable guitar lines and bold vocals.

Suede – Disintegrate
Suede are back with new single Disintegrate, taken from their upcoming album Antidepressants which will be showcased at a series of four headline Takeover shows at London’s Southbank Centre. Frontman Brett Anderson states: “If Autofiction was our punk record, Antidepressants is our post-punk record. It’s about the tensions of modern life, the paranoia, the anxiety, the neurosis. We are all striving for connection in a disconnected world. This was the feel I wanted the songs to have. The album is called Antidepressants. This is broken music for broken people.” Anderson says of the Suede Takeover shows: “Expect old songs, new songs, borrowed songs, blue songs, drama, melody, noise, sweat and a couple of surprises.”

Gordi – Cutting Room Floor
Australian artist Gordi (aka Sophie Payten) has shared new single Cutting Room Floor, a track about relationship growth, ahead of their third album Like Plasticine. Gordi states: “Cutting Room Floor is a song about growing pains, about the slow splintering that happens between people. I took the song to Durham in North Carolina to work on with my friend, Brad Cook. Matt McCaughan came over and played drums, and Brad and I filled in the rest. It was one of those songs that seemed to expand to fit any idea, and it was a real joy to work on. Jared Frieder and I shot the video in a carpark in Dallas as the sun was setting in the middle of a sweltering heatwave. I ate a whole pack of Twizzlers when we finished in an effort to abate my delirium.”

mary in the junkyard – drains
South London-based band mary in the junkyard are back with their new single drains and it’s their darkest yet, digging through the underworld of bustling London and needing the support of friends to be lifted out. The band illustrate this with dark guitar chords, tender singing and the fierce screams of Clari Freeman-Taylor, a suitably deep bassline from Saya Barbaglia and some fresh technical drumming from David Addison. Despite working hard to maintain the delicate energy they’ve come to hone, the band demonstrate they aren’t afraid of exploring the potential of their sound. Clari states: “I am curious about the bowels of the city, we don’t see what’s below but there are many pipes and caves and my friend once said ‘if you bury yourself I will dig you out again’ and I wanted to immortalise it because it made me feel so warm”.

Night Tapes – pacifico
London-based trio Night Tapes have dropped their haunting new single pacifico, taken from upcoming debut album portals//polarities. Their sound is this gorgeous blend of dreamy synths, lo-fi textures, and soft, ethereal vocals—perfect for late-night listening or zoning out on a quiet walk. Think dream pop meets ambient electronica, or Men I Trust meets Magdalena Bay. Of the new trip-hop inspired single, Night Tapes say: “pacifico was written after our friend returned from Mexico (San Jose del Pacifico) and told us stories about how beautiful it was. It’s about our idea of Pacifico – like a state of mind you can reach, as we still haven’t been there. This is our homage to 93 ‘til infinity by Souls of Mischief.” The album is said to be “a sonic exploration of memory, connection, and presence.”

Common Holly – Aegean Blue
Montreal’s Common Holly (aka Brigitte Naggar) has shared reflective new single Aegean Blue, taken from the forthcoming album Anything glass and it’s a meditative piano-based track brightened by Brigitte’s striking vocal melody. Brigitte states: “A reckoning in meaninglessness and unending pursuit. The words came in a moment of change and of reevaluating. This song sits squarely in the album’s theme of orienting toward what matters most, doing things differently when they aren’t feeling right. You can hear some of the vocal doubling here–since the album was recorded live, many (all?) of the songs have doubled vocals, because I would sing live while we were performing the song, and then I would later add more vocals on top of that initial vocal. This came to be a quality we liked in the whole experience of the album.”

holybones – Everywhere Break
Mysterious electronic / spoken word duo holybones have shared their new single Everywhere Break and they state: “Everywhere Break is a story of a relationship coming and going over a year. We don’t do love songs, but if we did, they’d probably sound like this.” The band made an imposing introduction with last year’s debut single Dogs and this highly anticipated latest track has a cinematic quality, with the patient vocal detailing a narrative which unpicks romantic tropes. Poignant lyrics conjur up the scene perfectly on this highly infectious, unique track – loving it!
